How it works

Laundry pickup and delivery: how it actually works

What happens between requesting a pickup and getting your clothes back: who collects, who prices the order, what the statuses mean, and what WashlyIndia does not do.

5 min readBy The WashlyIndia team

Doorstep laundry sounds like one service. It is actually two things that happen to be next to each other: a shop that cleans clothes, and software that carries the request, the price and the status between you and that shop. Knowing which is which explains most of what you see in the app — and who to talk to when something needs sorting out.

What WashlyIndia does

  • Shows you the laundry and dry-cleaning shops whose service area covers where you are.
  • Publishes each shop's own service list and per-item prices so you can compare them.
  • Carries your pickup request to the shop, with your items, address, preferred time and any notes.
  • Tracks the resulting order — status, itemised bill, payments recorded and anything still due.
  • Keeps one account across every shop you use, plus your address book and notifications.

What the laundry shop does

  • Decides whether to accept your pickup request, and at what price.
  • Arranges collection, where the shop offers pickup in your area.
  • Sorts, cleans, finishes and packs the items — with its own staff, equipment and process.
  • Sets its own turnaround, express charge, GST treatment and any prepaid pack it sells.
  • Returns the items and handles anything that goes wrong with the cleaning itself.

WashlyIndia does not operate laundry shops

The shops on the platform are independent businesses. WashlyIndia does not clean garments, employ pickup staff, set prices or guarantee a shop's work. It provides the software the shop and its customers use.

Step by step

1. You send a pickup request

You pick a shop, choose items from its published price list, set a quantity for each, say where and roughly when you would like the pickup, and add any notes. You can flag the request as express if you need it faster. A request is not an order and carries no bill — the running total the app shows is an estimate built from the shop's published rates.

2. The shop reviews it

The shop sees the request in its own inbox, with your items already priced at its current rates. It can accept, or decline with a reason — a shop might be at capacity, out of your range that week, or unable to take a particular fabric. Declined requests stay visible to you with the reason attached.

3. Accepting turns it into an order

On acceptance the request becomes a real order: line items, quantities, rates, any express surcharge, any membership balance applied, GST if the shop charges it, and a total. That order is what you track from then on.

4. You follow the status

The shop moves the order through its stages as the work happens, and you see each change:

  • Received — the shop has the items.
  • In process — cleaning and finishing are under way.
  • Ready — the order is finished and waiting to go back.
  • Partially delivered — some items have been handed back and more remain.
  • Delivered — everything has been returned.
  • Cancelled — the order was called off.

5. Payment and dues

Every payment the shop records against your order appears on it, so the amount paid and the amount outstanding are always visible. If you pay in parts, the order shows as partially paid until the balance is cleared. Your dues page gathers anything outstanding across all the shops you use, so nothing gets quietly forgotten.

Who to contact when something is wrong

Anything about the cleaning, the collection, the price or the turnaround is the shop's — its phone number is on its page, and it is the fastest route to an answer. Anything about the app itself, your account, or something the platform is showing incorrectly is ours: write to support@washlyindia.in.

Questions readers ask about this topic

Does WashlyIndia send someone to collect my laundry?

No. Collection is arranged by the shop you send the request to, using its own staff or partners, and only where that shop offers pickup in your area. WashlyIndia carries the request and the status — it does not operate a delivery fleet.

Is my pickup slot guaranteed once I request it?

No. A pickup request records the time you would prefer; the shop confirms what it can actually do when it accepts. Treat the requested time as a preference, not a booking, and check the order once the shop has responded.

How do I know what an order will cost before I commit?

The request screen shows a running estimate from the shop's published per-item rates. The binding figure is the order the shop creates when it accepts, which adds anything the estimate cannot know in advance — express charges, GST as the shop applies it, and any membership balance coming off the bill.

What does "partially delivered" mean on my order?

The shop has handed back some of the items on that order and is still holding the rest. It is set by the shop when it records a partial handover, and the order stays in that state until the remaining items are returned.

Can I use more than one shop at the same time?

Yes. One WashlyIndia account works across every shop you link, and your orders, receipts and dues stay grouped per shop while remaining visible in one place.
