WashlyIndia and your laundry shop: who does what

Who does what between WashlyIndia, the technology platform, and the independent laundry shops that clean your clothes — including who to contact about which problem.

4 min readBy The WashlyIndia team

WashlyIndia is often described in one word — "laundry" — and that word hides the important distinction. WashlyIndia is a technology platform. The shops on it are independent laundry and dry-cleaning businesses. Everything about how the platform behaves follows from that split, so it is worth ten minutes once.

The short version

WashlyIndia builds and runs the software: the shop directory, the pickup-request flow, order tracking, receipts, dues, memberships and notifications, plus the business system the shops themselves run their counters on. The shops do the laundry: they set prices, decide which requests to accept, arrange collection where they offer it, clean and finish the garments, and return them.

Who decides what

The shop decides

  • Which services it offers and what each item costs.
  • The area it will serve, as a radius around its own location.
  • Whether to accept a pickup request, and how quickly it can turn the work around.
  • Whether it charges an express surcharge, and how much.
  • Whether it applies GST, and at what percentage.
  • Whether it sells prepaid packs, what they cost, how much service value they carry and how long they last.
  • How it handles damage, loss or a re-clean.

WashlyIndia decides

  • How shops are presented and searched — by distance from where you are, within each shop's own service radius.
  • What an order can and cannot do: the status flow, that receipts are never edited, that a refund is its own recorded entry.
  • That your data stays separated per shop, and that a shop can only see the customers who have used it.
  • What the apps look like and how they behave.

What this means for you in practice

  1. 1Prices differ between shops on the platform, because each shop sets its own. That is a feature — it is what makes comparison worthwhile.
  2. 2There is no platform-wide rating or "verified best" badge, because WashlyIndia does not inspect or rank the shops' work.
  3. 3A shop can decline your request. It is a business with finite capacity, not a queue you have booked.
  4. 4A quality problem is resolved with the shop. It did the work, so it is the one that can put it right.
  5. 5A problem with the app — a status that will not update, a receipt that will not open, an account you cannot get into — is ours.

One account, many independent shops

Linking a shop to your account gives that shop your name, phone and the orders you place with it — and nothing about the other shops you use. Your history stays yours and stays organised per shop.

If you run a laundry shop

The other half of WashlyIndia is the system shops use to run the counter: orders, customers, payments and dues, inventory, GST reports and a mobile app for the owner. Shops keep their own brand, their own prices and their own customers. That side lives on the WashlyIndia business site, linked from the header of this one.

Questions readers ask about this topic

Does WashlyIndia own the laundry shops listed on the platform?

No. Every shop on WashlyIndia is an independently owned and operated business. It uses WashlyIndia's software to run its counter and to receive requests from customers, and it keeps its own brand, pricing and staff.

Are the shops on WashlyIndia franchises?

No. They are not franchises of WashlyIndia and they do not trade under a WashlyIndia brand. They are separate businesses that subscribe to the software.

Who is responsible if my clothes are damaged?

The shop that cleaned them. It is the service provider and it is the party you contracted with for the work, so raise damage, loss or a re-clean with the shop directly — its contact number is on its page in the app.

Does WashlyIndia vet or inspect the shops?

Shops are onboarded as subscribing businesses, and WashlyIndia does not inspect their premises, audit their cleaning process or rate their work. That is why the platform publishes what each shop offers and charges rather than telling you which shop is best.

Who should I contact — the shop or WashlyIndia?

The shop, for anything about the cleaning, the collection, the price, the turnaround or a bill you disagree with. WashlyIndia, at support@washlyindia.in, for anything about the app, your account, sign-in, notifications or something the platform is displaying incorrectly.
